Soccer
tournament
Sibabili Khuzwayo is almost single-handedly putting junior
soccer in Cato Manor on the map. Last month Sbabili invited
Under 13 soccer teams from Cato Manor to participate in
a tournament.
The idea behind the tournament was to select a Cato Manor
Under 13 soccer team that will tour the province. A friendly
match with AmaZulu Juniors is on the cards to test the squad’s
strength
Cricket
festival
Meanwhile news from the cricket development initiative is
that the South African cricket captain, Shaun Pollock, may
be visiting Cato Manor for the cricket mini-festival that
will be held at the Cato Manor Sports ground on the 28 November.
Teams from all parts of Cato Manor will be expected to come
in numbers to compete for various prizes. The prizes will
be sponsored by the Natal Cricket Union.
Each area will be bringing four teams to the tournament.
There will be an Under 10,Under 12 and Open categories.
Thus far cricket introduction sessions have been completed
in Chesterville and Wiggins. Bonela and Cato Crest are next
in line for the training sessions.
Athletics
meeting
The Cato Manor Sports Committee has formulated an athletics
sub-committee under the leadership of Thami Dladla to organize
athletics activities for the youth.
"It appears that the Department of Education is not focusing
on sport development among children. Perhaps this is one
reason why we did not do so well in the Olympics. We need
to start identifying talent early so that we can compete
in international athletics meetings," said Thami.
The athletics committee is staging an athletic event at
the University Sports Ground on October 20. All the primary
schools in Cato Manor will participate.
