Feast of school sport

Participants of the fun run that was organised by the Cato Crest Athletic Club are seen posing with the winners of the beauty contest held on the same day.

Cato Manor schools will have a feast of netball and soccer games which are scheduled to take place every Thursday, a day for sports in most schools. The games began on June 7 2001 and will run until September 2001.
The games will be in a league format with the winner taking home a floating trophy. The school who wins the floating trophy on three consecutive occasions will then keep it.
The league is an initiative of sub-committees affiliated to the Cato Manor Sports Committee.
The schools involved in this league are Cato Crest Primary, Mayville Primary, Wiggins Primary Bonela, Carrington School, Christopher Nxumalo, HP Ngwenya, Ukukhanya Kwelanga. The league is divided into two categories Under 11’s for Junior Primaries and open for Senior Primaries.
Boykie Khanyile, the CMDA sports development coordinator, said: “Thanks to the European Union which has provided funds, we are able to stage these games. They are an integral part of a child’s educational programme but for some reason the Department of Education has chosen to ignore this sphere of education.”
Another important development is that the annual Cato Manor Soccer Tournament, which takes place in July, will be staged again this year. The tournament kicks off on July 7. All interested clubs are welcome to participate. For further information contact Boykie Khanyile on 261 6640 or 082 7526 961.
