New format for soccer tournament

Wiggins Umkhumbane Military Force FC will enjoy home ground advantage.

Two time winners, Chesterville Extension FC will find the competition stiffer this year.

The annual Cato Manor soccer tournament, which is sponsored by the European Union, may see drastic changes this year. Besides uncertainty over when to stage the competition because it coincides with the World Cup to be held in Korea\Japan, organisers feel that it was time the tournament had a new look.
It is still not clear what format the tournament will follow. There is a proposal that the tournament should use the soccer fields which are spread around Cato Manor and that it should be played in group stages. Each group will have four teams with the two teams finishing on top of the group advancing to the next round.
"Using the sportsfields around Cato Manor is sure to bring out the spectators," said CMDA’s sports co-ordinator, Bokyie Khanyile.
There are plans to formalise the creation of a Cato Manor Soccer Association. The association will be responsible for administration and chennelling sponsorship/funding intended for soccer teams. It will be part of the national soccer body which is SAFA.
