Asphalt Construction has commenced with
the realignment of Francois Road.

Old and New
Dunbar: 1500 sites
Preliminary planning and engineering design is complete. Show unit construction has commenced. Joint ownership issue with Dept of Housing is ongoing. Project management currently being revised. Operational planning well advanced. Construction of internal secondary collector roads has commenced at New Dunbar. New approach to upgrade projects being pilotted.

Cato Crest Greensfields
Phase 1: 330 Sites
All services have been constructed and handed over to the Local Authority. Approximately 307 houses built to date and 23 under construction.
Motheo Construction East is on site to complete the balance of works after BGM Holdings (Pty)Ltd failed to meet their contractual obligations.
Jamaica: 450 sites
Civils 30% complete. Approximately 100 houses built to date. An application for services top up is currently being packaged.

Chesterville
Incremental Phase 1: 130 sites

Construction of services is complete and all services have been handed over to the Local Authority. Approximately 129 houses built to date. The process of sales administration is well underway. Metro Housing have committed
R300 000 for completion of remedial works on the project. (Refer detail under Chesterville Incremental Phase 2)


The Jamaica Housing Project has yielded 100 houses to date. Although there is a lack of water and electricity supply to the new homes, the CMDA and the relevant service providers are working around the clock to ensure that the transition from an informal settlement to a less formal township happens smoothly and timeously.

Chesterville Incremental
Phase 2: 241 sites

Awaiting outcome of submission to Department of Housing to extend balance of earlier project subsidies on this project.
Locoh have been appointed to complete 10 units. It is also hoped that the first units will form the basis for discussion with the beneficiary communities to confirm/modify elements of the design for the remainder of the units if this is necessary.
The earliest date for the construction start of the balance of the new units will be at the beginning of 2002.

Wiggins Umkhumbane:
672 sites

The construction of houses is complete. Sales administration currently being finalised.

Wiggins
Fast Track: 1038 sites

The construction of houses is complete. Sales administration in progress. A conveyancer has been appointed to open the township register to effect transfer of units to beneficiaries.

Nsimbini: 433 sites
Approximately 400 houses built to date. Sales administration in progress.

North & South of Booth Road:
415 sites

Approximately 245 units built to date. Sales administration in progress. Project management currently being revised.

Chesterville Bond
Housing Phase 1: 364 sites

Approximately 338 houses built to date. Sales administration in progress. Approximately 352 sites sold to date.

Chesterville Bond
Housing Phase 2: 252 sites

Approximately 210 houses built to date and 12 under construction. Sales administration in progress. Approximately 244 sites sold to date.

Chesterville Bond
Housing Phase 3: 183 sites

Approximately 158 houses built to date and 11 under construction. Sales administration in progress. Approximately 177 sites sold to date.

Umkumbaan Infil
Mortgage bond linked units. Infil sites in developed area being released for sale.

Hilltop High Density
(Shayamoya Phase 1)

Pilot housing association rental units. Services and construction of units complete.


Tammy Naidu of Thekwini Construction has something to smile about – Intuthuko Junction is rapidly taking shape for occupation in early December. The Cato Manor Development Association will also be relocating to these offices at the end of November 2001 and will commence its operations during the first week of December.

Cato Crest Greenfields Remainder
Awaiting approval on funding application forwarded to Department of Housing. This project will accommodate for relocations from Cato Crest internal services. About 150 -200 incremental/micro-loan units planned for this project.

Cato Crest Interface
Preliminary feasibility work completed. Higher income accommodation initially available for Cato Crest. Approximately 25-30 credit linked units to be made available.

Cato Crest Settled Area
Funding application has been submitted to the Department of Housing. This project will upgrade and stabilise the informal settlement of Cato Crest.

Roosfontein
Preliminary planning complete. Area for development has been identified. Environmental issues resolved. Currently busy with design of bulk road.
Funding approval outstanding.

Wiggins Infil
To develop any remaining portions of the Wiggins precinct. Residential sites under the PHDB model for allocation as relocation opportunities. 150 opportunities anticipated. Higher density, partially attached, microloan linked housing envisaged. Feasibility study completed.
Subsidy funding application currently being compiled Additional funding from USAID has been secured.

Umkumbaan
Freeway Slopes

220 houses planned. Submission is with the Metro for support of project and top up. Funding submission to be forwarded to Housing Board.

Umkumbaan High Density
In project packaging stage. Land Assembly underway. Pursuing possible sale to Social Housing Institution.

Cato Manor Hospital Site
In project packaging stage. Land Assembly underway. Negotiations with hospital authorities close to completion.

Grosvenor Road
In project packaging stage. Land Assembly underway. Community consultation process initiated.


The Cato Crest Container Park at the Greenfields Housing Project will be up and running at the end of this year. The first batch of containers has already arrived.

Part Hillary
In project packaging stage. Land Assembly underway.

Part Bellair
In project packaging stage. Land Assembly underway.

Shayamoya Infil Phase 2
To extend the pilot social housing at Wiggins to provide more accommodation of this nature. 180 residential units for rent by a mix of predominantly PHDB qualifying tenants; preferably run on the same basis as the adjacent Shayamoya Housing Association project Phase 1.
Proposal submitted by Shayamoya Housing Association, currently being assessed by CMDA. Draft deed of sale under discussion.

Social Housing Ikhaya Infil
To provide 262 rental housing at an affordable rental to employed residents drawn mainly from the Cato Manor area. First Metro Association to develop and run project at rentals that are affordable for households with an income of below R3500 per month.
Preliminary project design is complete. Funding application has been submitted. Now awaiting funding approval.

Aids Sheltered Housing
To provide accommodation for children orphaned by Aids within the existing community. Two unit pilot project.
Funding application submitted to Department of Housing. CMDA are working with BESG who have put project funding application together.
Deeds of sale being concluded.


Stedone Emerging Civils cc is currently engaged in the landscaping of a sportsfield at Wiggins West.
