Winners of CMDA Architectural Ideas Competition Announced
The winners of the Cato Manor Architectural Ideas Competition to generate ideas around a new Administrative Support Centre for Cato Manor were announced at a ceremony on Friday evening at the Umkhumbane Library where the exhibition is on show until 23 September and may be viewed by the public.

The first prize of R20 000 was awarded to East Coast Architects (D van Heerden, D Barrow, C Dhlamini and S Kinsler) for their realistic but imaginative response to the brief.

Assessors said that the submission was analytical and highly responsive to the Cato Manor context with thoughtful design of the public interface with the facility.  The submission also displayed imaginative solutions to security issues and access into and out of the facility.

The R10 000 second prize was awarded to Kooblal and Steyn Architects and R5 000 third prize was awarded to Sarkin and Jain Architects and Urban Designers.

The new Administrative Support Centre forms part of the multi-million rand Cato Manor Development Project currently underway.  Development of the new Centre will commence in the new year with a R11,8 million investment funded by the European Union.

Situated on one hectare of undeveloped land at the intersection of Cato Manor Road and Francois Road, the Centre will consist of 2 300 m2 office, retail and seminar accommodation providing rentable space to Cato Manor related public service agencies, emerging Cato Manor businesses, community based organisations and development orientated NGO’s, professionals and housing companies.
